So I was commenting on a YouTube book-related video page and complimenting the young lady who runs it for including William S. Burroughs on her recommendations list, as in more than a year of watching countless Book Tubers I had never seen Burroughs mentioned. Many people liked my comment. But of course, this meant there had to be a hater.
Here she came, filled with politically correct wrath, calling me insulting names and accusing me of promoting a "wife murderer" who deserved to be cancelled (that was the good thing, seeing a canceler and enemy of free discourse admit this out loud).
Never mind that Burroughs was a homosexual, which is usually enough for any modernist to fall at someone's feet. He had to be cancelled because his views of women and lesbians were "questionable," because he was not committed "enough" to homosexuality, and because he had (unintentionally) killed his wife.
Not only this, but the page's host, Dakota Warren, came under fire for daring to recommend the now-classic novel "To Kill A Mockingbird," which in the eyes of any sane person is pro-black, but which in the schizophrenic eyes of modern cancelers is "Uncle Tom-like" and insulting, requiring that it, too, be cancelled.
I responded to the canceler energetically, after which she predictably fell silent. But Ms Warren was sadly cowed, apologized and promised to feature more militant black authors. So I'll respond for her too, and state that while I am not a fan of "To Kill A Mockingbird" for aesthetic reasons, it has every right to exist and be read by anyone even if it IS racist. Just like the anti-white Final Call newspaper of the Nation of Islam does as well.
The hilarious thing about all this is that the cancelers inevitably support authors whom other groups would like to see cancelled! When the kicking shoe is on someone else's foot, the cancel mob suddenly doesn't like it and starts crying. Yet they will not stop trying to "cancel" people who simply disagree with them on certain matters.
Such p.c. types are only contributing towards a world in which people are going to remain in factions and cliques and never come together. There is no chance for cooperative living with them because everything with them will always be a cause of grave offence. Even among themselves, I doubt that they will get along for any lengthy period of time and I think that their lives will be a constant movement from one "friend" to another as they inevitably offend each other due to a differing thought on this or that. Of course, those who run societies just love such division among the masses and do everything they can to contribute to it.
Such people do not know that I have more experience living among "minorities" than they could ever likely hope to, that my lady friend is a "minority" and that I could talk all day about Ellison, Wright and black authors they've never heard of.
Of course, they don't know this because they never bothered to find out. They saw I had typed the name Burroughs, and immediately assumed that I must be an "oppressor" deserving cancellation. I don't know how fevered and twisted a mind must be to make such a leap of illogic!
I actually pray for these people that they might get better, even though Christ Himself has probably been "cancelled" too!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
