From Matt Walsh On Sex Abuse in Non-Catholic Bodies

I, too, have heard these statements. Mr Walsh does an excellent job of putting the lie to them.

From Matt's FB Page
I have written a few times this week about the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. I feel that it is my obligation to discuss this subject and be brutally honest about it. Even if I didn't feel obligated, I'd do it anyway because I'm just so infuriated by the whole thing.

I've received a great many emails from Catholics voicing their own anger, disgust, and frustration. I've also received a great many emails from Christians of other denominations and churches, and I'm sad to say that most of these messages -- not all, but most -- have been extremely prideful and almost gloating in tone. I have heard again and again, words to the effect of, "I'm so glad this isn't a problem in MY church."
Are you so sure? Protestant churches have their own sex abuse problem (https://www.npr.org/…/sex-abuse-allegations-getting-protest…) and it's quite serious. We don't have the same statistics because the churches are independent. And it doesn't get the same press because the media has a special hatred for the Catholic Church. But rape, abuse, assault, molestation, etc., are not foreign to other churches. There are some who argue it's worse in other denominations (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/…/protestant-sex-abuse-boz-t…).
And if you are a secular sort of person, do not puff up your chest and congratulate yourself. Sex abuse is also extremely common in secular institutions. In public school, for instance, it is 100 times worse than the Catholic Church (https://www.lifesitenews.com/…/forgotten-study-abuse-in-sch…).
My point is not to downplay the problems in the Catholic Church. If I wanted to downplay it, I wouldn't be talking about it so much. But I've been very, very disturbed by the attitude I've seen displayed. We have to realize that perversion, abuse, and debauchery are cultural problems. Every cultural institution contributes to the problem. Nobody is exempt. And until we look at the issue from that perspective, and stop seeing it as something confined to the "others," nothing will get better.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
