When the Cuter and Shorter Half came home from work she offered to take me out to dinner for my birthday. Our dining out choices are very limited here in Wilber, and they're complicated by her vegetarianism. Our choices are Casey's Pizza (which we had last night), Subway, or one of the two pubs that serve food, but there her choices are limited to a grilled cheese sandwich &/or onion rings or french fries.
Ten miles up the road is Crete, a university town about 31⁄2 the size of Wilber, with a much larger selection of places to eat, from fast food joints to sit down restaurants. There is a Pizza Hut for when we want to partake of pizza whilst eating out, and several Mexican restaurants.
We had eaten at one of the Mexican restaurants. It was OK, but nothing great. Of course, we are spoiled from our years living in Lawrence, KS where we frequented a now-closed restaurant called La Familia. Even after we moved to Kansas City, KS about 40 miles from Lawrence, I would occasionally make the trip to pick up food for the family. It was great, so our standards are quite high.
At any rate, the place in Crete at which we had eaten before was adequate and it was the closest to us, on the highway as you come into town from the south. We decided to go there, only to arrive to discover that they were closed for a 4th of July holiday!
So, we wended our way all through Crete on the highway to the east side of town to a strip mall containing a Mexican restaurant called De Leon's. No frills, order at the counter from a massive menu, styrofoam plates and plastic ware. Very basic. But the food was excellent! As we ate, we perused the menu in more detail. They have authentic Mexican dishes like tripa buche and menudo that one never sees in the average American Mexican-style restaurant.
Of course, because of the Smithfield hog plant south of town, Crete's population is over 30% Hispanic. We noticed that several customers were ordering in Spanish, which is always a recommendation for any 'ethnic' restaurant.
At any rate, we now have a new favourite restaurant in the area!

However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
