The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not a meal. It is a holocaust. The priest does not set the table for a supper. He places the Victim, butchered and bloodied, upon the altar of sacrifice, because by His death He conquered death — the eternal death of sin — and by His rising He restored us to eternal life.I could not agree more, which is why in discussions of the non-existent 'vocations crisis' I point out that there is no lack of vocations to the Sacrificing Priesthood. There are many men, as the overflowing Traditional and orthodox Diocesan seminaries prove, who are willing to forego marriage and a family to stand at the Altar of God and offer the Sacrifice of the Son to the Father.
There are not many men who are willing to forego marriage and a family to be celibate social workers and presiders over the 'community meal'!
