Life in SE Nebraska

My Cuter and Shorter Half is a US Postal Service employee in the great metropolis of Clatonia, Nebraska, population 226. As you can
see from the picture on the right, it's little more than a wide spot in the road.

There are a few businesses, the PO, a plumbing shop, a bank, an insurance agents, and The Legends, a sit down restaurant that is very popular with people in surrounding counties and towns.

The PO is only open in the afternoon, and there are days she has no customers, only people coming in to pick up their mail from their PO Boxes. This afternoon, tho', several people stopped in to update her on the news.

Not world or national news. Not even Nebraska news, but Clatonia news! When she got to work this afternoon, she discovered that her PO had neither electric power nor water.

It seems that one of the vendors serving The Legends had managed to run into a power pole, knocking it down. This took the power out in the town north of the highway you see in the picture (the Post Office is on the north side of the road or right side in the picture). The power company was called, and they responded in timely fashion with a repair crew.

That took care of the problem, right? Well, no. To repair the power line, it seems the crew had to do some digging. As you may know, there is a dedicated x11 number to call before one starts digging,
just in case there might be utility lines of some sort, power lines, water mains, etc. below. The number is 811and is often displayed above  such lines.

Well, obviously it wasn't in this case! However, one would think that a utility company would know that this was important, whether there was a sign or not. At any rate, no call was made, and in repairing the power line, they managed to break the water main, taking out water service to the entire town!

As a result, the Cuter and Shorter Half had lots of visitors this afternoon, and I'm sure the CEO of the water company has had or will have some choice words for the CEO of the power company!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
