So there was this post about how religious parents' attempts to raise their kids in moral ways are doomed to fail, that parents who try to raise kids in moral ways are "harming kids psychologically" and so on. There is this Johnny-come-lately "study," claims the post, which has now declared that kids exposed to sex at an early age grow up to have "healthier" attitudes toward sex and "better mental health." A plethora of commenters then came on extolling the joys of sexual "knowledge" at young ages. Oh, really?
So there are no teens or anyone else who are happy because of waiting for marriage to have sex, and there never were? That's funny, because different statistical studies have said that a certain percentage of teens will never be sexually active or "knowledgeable" AND will also be largely among the happier and more successful teens.
So what about the supposedly "happy and sexually active" teens? Who are they having sex with? Other teens? Or are they often having sex with 18 year-olds or older? Or much older? Which just happens to be illegal? Are such "studies" encouraging teens to have sex with adults? Oh, wait a minute, teens having sex with each other is ALSO illegal in America in general. Is the study encouraging teens to have illegal sex with each other? Ah, now it's not all so easy and "cool," is it? Just how early is the "earlier" sex initiation being proposed here? And exactly whom is doing the initiation? Do not caring parents, religious or otherwise, have a say in this?
There may be problems with some "hyper-religious" parents. There may just as easily be problems with hyper-sexualized parents. But in the center, with teens who may or may not be religious but who have decided to save their virginity into adulthood, LONGTIME studies find them to be the happiest, most productive and most balanced teens with the most actively concerned parents. Duh.
Does anyone really believe that being involved in the complexities of sexual relationships as a teen, risking documented high rates of sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, artificial birth control side effects and taking part in the mass murder of abortion are good things for teens to be playing with? It is no wonder at all then that the happiest among them are the ones who have decided to stay away from all of it. And it "just so happens" that those are the teens who stay away from drugs and alcohol as well. They may not get invited to the prom or the cool parties where libertine parents look the other way as kids drink, smoke and have premature sex, but they are likely to be more content than any of the "cool" kids.
Ah, but what of all the great "sex ed" shoved by the government upon youth for the last forty-plus years? 1 in 4 teens will now come down with a sexually transmitted disease and the rates are climbing. THAT is the result of "sex ed."
