Tridentine Community News - Four priest trained in the EF in Idaho and Detroit; Confessionals on Trains
From Musings of a Pertinacious Papist
Fr. Camilo Garcia, Pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Fruitland, celebrated his first Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Friday, February 8, in his private chapel. Fr. Camilo retrieved an altar missal and missal stand from a mini-museum of pre-Vatican II items in his church. Previous pastors thought they would never be used again, but they were wrong!
At an evening gathering of the Treasure Valley Latin Mass Society in Boise during the week, a talk was presented about the history of the TLM in metro Detroit and Windsor. Lessons learned here can and should help others elsewhere. Upon seeing the above photos, members remarked about the genuine joy observed on the faces of the priests following this significant moment in their priestly life. Back here in Detroit, Fr. Tony Blount, SOLT, Associate Pastor of historic Holy Redeemer Parish, offered his first Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Wednesday, February 13. Featured in Extraordinary Faith Episode 13 - Detroit Part 1 of 2, Holy Redeemer is a massive, ornate church designed to resemble St. Paul Outside the Walls. It has hosted several special Tridentine Masses over the years, though none yet celebrated by a priest of the SOLT order that administers the parish.
Special thanks to Br. Javier Ebertowski, a SOLT seminarian in residence at Holy Redeemer who arranged the training.
This column will report when public Masses are planned by Fr. Blount, whether at Holy Redeemer or elsewhere.
Confessionals on Trains
A November 29, 2018 story on Quartz (www.qz.com) reported that on December 21 and 24, the publicly owned Lesser Poland Railways was going to provide priests on their trains to hear Confessions. A beautiful sign of the pervasive Catholic culture in Poland, organized by the state, no less.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
I wish that more churches could offer it outside of the major cities like Detroit. I live 50 miles away and can not get to any of the churches that have an LTM in my area. Because they are all in the city of Detroit,
