Canada Votes 2019: Don't Trust The "Disinformation and Hate" Police

This reminds me of some social media platforms using hard-left Snopes for 'fact checking' news.

From Everyday for Life Canada

Canada will vote in a federal election in October 2019. The Liberal government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be out there defending their controversial policies. Trudeau's government has pushed for a carbon tax, supports open borders, has legalized physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia, protected gender identity and expression in law, legalized marijuana, supports unrestricted abortion at home and abroad and has probably spent more tax money in one term than any previous government in Canada's history.

Canada's MSM already mostly side with the Liberal government. And some research organizations have announced that they intend to police the "the digital public sphere." Guess what political direction they will take? One such initiative comes from the Digital Democracy Project (DDP). They propose "to analyze and respond to the increasing amounts of disinformation and hate" in the digital ecosystem. They will monitor the situation so that appropriate government policies and research projects can be developed. It's all about countering "threats to democratic institutions and social cohesion." But is DDP's goal or similar initiatives the real threat to democracy? Who is monitoring the government? More about this later.

President of DDP Edward Greenspon will work with Max Bell School of Public Policy professor Taylor Owen. They want to "focus on studying and communicating the impact of disinformation in the lead-up to the October 2019 federal election." Here's what DDP says:
'We have learned through our previous research that this country lacks adequate understanding of what’s being put through our media ecosystem by those seeking to divide and disorient Canadians for their own ideological, commercial or geo-political reasons,' Mr. Greenspon said. 'This project is designed to expose these attempts and determine how best to counter them and propose long-term solutions.'
'Threats to the integrity of our public sphere and the undermining of elections are serious threats to democracy,' said Prof. Owen, who is taking up an appointment in January 2019 at McGill University’s Max Bell School of Public Policy, where he will hold the Beaverbrook Chair in Media, Ethics and Communications. 'Further research and active monitoring is necessary to better understand and ultimately counter these threats. The Digital Democracy Project will ensure that media organizations, academic researchers and policymakers have the knowledge and the policy responses needed to protect Canadian democratic institutions and to as best as possible ensure social cohesion.'
'Prof. Owen’s work with the Digital Democracy Project will ensure our school plays an important role in addressing these challenges and we are delighted to be collaborating with the Public Policy Forum on such a timely and vital issue for Canadian democracy,' said Chris Ragan, Director of the Max Bell School of Public Policy.
The questions to ask about this are: Who is really attempting to undermine democracy and the electoral process? How are Canadians going to be protected from organizations such as DDP? Who gets to define what is "hate speech," "fake news" and "disinformation?"

The Trudeau government has already set aside $595 million slush fund for the MSM. As long as they spin the reporting narrative in the direction of the Liberal government, they will probably receive some funds. The CBC will no doubt get a large portion of that tax money and so can be trusted to cheer lead for the Liberals and their policies. You can be sure that the few independent media outlets like Rebel Media, Blacklock's Reporter or True North Initiative won't be given any of that propaganda money. No reputable reporter should take any payment. What Trudeau is really doing is using tax money to make sure the media reports on the Liberals in the upcoming election in a positive manner. It won't be long before those that don't support issues such as open borders, "reproductive rights," a moratorium on building pipelines or climate change, will be accused of spreading "disinformation" or "fake news."

In clear English, DDP will define for Canadians how to "think correctly." We will tell you what to think. Canadians need to be persuaded to think Liberal. This must be done so the nation is not divided during the election. We must re-elect the Trudeau Liberals. However, isn't debate and opposing views what an election campaign should be about? This DDP is Liberal talk for censorship and Liberal propaganda dressed up as research and protecting democracy. DDP even has Canadian charitable status so their donations are tax-deductible. This is a gross misuse of taxpayer money because it aims to brainwash the citizenry with their own money. What Canadians really need during the election is to be told the truth about the Liberals and protection from propaganda organizations like the DDP. Canadians beware: don't trust the "disinformation and hate" police.
