Happy Birthday, Liechtenstein!

300 years ago today, 23 January 1719, His Imperial Majesty The Holy Roman Emperor Karl VI decreed that Vaduz and Schellenberg were united and elevated the newly formed territory to the dignity of Fürstentum with the name "Liechtenstein" in honour of "[his] true servant, Anton Florian of Liechtenstein". It was on this date that Liechtenstein became a sovereign member state of the Holy Roman Empire.

And 300 years later, it is the only surviving State of the Empire, and is still ruled by Haus Liechtenstein. I wrote about my personal relationship to Haus Liechtenstein and owing personal allegiance to HSH Prince Franz Joseph here, and a much more detailed account of its history here.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
