Astroturfing – How the Media Is Brainwashing Us

Father points out that 90% of the media is controlled by six companies, with disastrous results for our culture and civilisation.

Did you know that only a handful of corporations, 6 to be exact, control over 90 percent of the media? That means nearly everything we hear on the radio, read in the news, and see on television (including ‘news’). I’m talking about General Electric (GE), News-Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS.

More and more people are expressing their concern that what we see in the media is nothing short of brainwashing. Weren’t we once, just 40 years ago, horrified about the thought of killing babies? Wasn’t Obama for DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) in just 2008? Do we really believe it is “okay” now for grown men to share a bathroom with little girls? Men should now be allowed to steal athletic awards from women? What happened?!?!

Filled with clever marketing tactics designed to tell us what to think, mainstream media “manufactures” public opinion and popular trends. It’s time to really take a look at what’s going on here and consider the type of information we’re being bombarded with.

Astroturfing is designed to create the image of public consensus where there is none. Astroturfing is the use of fake grassroots efforts that primarily focus on influencing public opinion and typically are funded by corporations and governmental entities to form opinions.

In the below eyeopening talk, veteran investigative journalist (and Former CBS NEWS investigative reporter) Sharyl Attkisson shows how “astroturf,” or fake grassroots movements, funded by political, corporate, or other special interests very effectively manipulate and distort media messages.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
