  • 1204 – The Siege of Château Gaillard ends in a French victory over King John of England, who loses control of Normandy to King Philip II Augustus.

  • 1645 - Founding of la Compagnie des Habitants to replace the Compagnie des Cent-Associés (Company of New France); gets trade and colonisation rights to New France, on condition of assuming all the administrative, military, and religious charges of the colony of New France in the future, as well as the yearly transportation of 20 colonists, and an annual payment of one thousand beaver skins.   • 1940 - World War II - RCN ships HMCS Chaudiere, HMCS Gatineau, HMCS St. Catherines, HMCS Chilliwack, and HMCS Fennel, assisted by HMS Icarus and HMS Kenilworth Castle, attack and force German submarine U-744 to the surface after over thirty hours of constant hunting in the North Atlantic; the vessel is sunk.
