- 1940 – Six high-ranking members of Soviet politburo, including Joseph Stalin, sign an order for the execution of 25,700 Polish intelligentsia, including 14,700 Polish POWs, in what will become known as the Katyn massacre.
- March 5, 1943 - British and Canadian bombers start Battle of the Ruhr; year-long bombing offensive against Germany. Germany
- 1953 – Joseph Stalin, the longest serving leader of the Soviet Union, dies at his Volynskoe dacha in Moscow after being hit by a cerebral haemorrhage, and went to meet his master in hell!
- 1967 - Georges-Philias Vanier 1888-1967 dies at age 78; soldier, Royal 22ème Regiment; Canada's 19th Governor-General 1959-67, and the first French Canadian to hold the position. His Cause for Beatification (along with his wife Pauline) has been introduced.
- 2013 - Hugo Chavez, communist dictator of Venezuela, died, on the 60th anniversary of the death of his role model, the mass murderer Joseph Stalin and went to meet him in hell.
