Oaths mean nothing to modernists! All of the men responsible for the disaster that was Vatican II had taken the Oath Against Modernism.
Toronto Catholic District School Board trustees take an Oath which states that they are committed to defending the truths of the faith. The question asked of them is this: "Will you be faithful to the teachings of the Church and to the Primacy of the Roman Pontiff and the authority of the Magesterium?" Trustees answer: "I will."
Trustees Ida Li Preti and Norm Di Pasquale have freely taken that Oath. However, both of them have become candidates for either the upcoming provincial or federal election. Li Preti is presently an Ontario Liberal Party candidate for Humber River-Black Creek for the next provincial election. Di Pasquale is a candidate for the federal New Democratic Party in the riding of Spadina-Fort York.
This is the federal Liberal Party position on abortion: "We believe that women have the right to make all decisions about their own bodies – full stop. That is why we will always protect a woman’s right to access an abortion should she make that choice."
In 2005, the Liberal Party passed Bill C-38, the Civil Marriage Act, legally recognizing same-sex marriage, which is defined as “the lawful union of two persons to the exclusion of all others.”
The Catholic Church defines marriage as, "The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1601)
The federal Liberal Party supports abortion on demand, with no restrictions. The federal Liberals have supported and expanded funding for abortion and abortion advocacy even in other countries. All Liberal federal candidates must support abortion in order to be nominated. And gender analysis of every issue has become a priority. The word "gender" isn't Catholic teaching. We have no reason to believe otherwise for the provincial Liberal Party.
The federal Liberal government legalized euthanasia for adults with a “grievous and irremediable” and not necessarily terminal “medical condition” in June 2016, after a Supreme Court Decision on the issue. The Liberal government has since reviewed the legislation to include consideration expanding euthanasia/medically-assisted death in three areas: to “mature minors,” in the case of advance requests, and for mental health disorders. This is not Catholic teaching.
The New Democratic Party also supports abortion on demand with no restrictions. All NDP candidates must support abortion. The party would withhold federal healthcare funding for provinces with barriers to abortion. The NDP fully support euthanasia and medically-assisted death. This is not Catholic teaching.
Catholic teaching about human dignity is based on the fifth Commandment: “You shall not kill." The Catholic Church believes in the sanctity of human life and inherent dignity of the human person as the foundation of Catholic Social Teaching.
Human rights for the Church begin with, “the right to life from conception to its natural end, which is the condition for the exercise of all other rights, and in particular, implies the illicitness of every form of procured abortion and euthanasia.” (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, 155)
The Catholic Church teaches that voluntary termination of life— at any stage — necessarily denies individuals the opportunity to use their gifts, whatever their circumstances, to fulfill themselves by advancing their search for God. Catholic teaching opposes the voluntary termination of life at any point between conception and natural death.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the document "The Participation of Catholics in Political Life" is clear on the issue of marriage and for those who enter politics not to live "two parallel lives." The teaching apply here:
II, 4.3 - “….[T]he family needs to be safeguarded and promoted, based on monogamous marriage between a man and a woman, and protected in its unity and stability in the face of modern laws on divorce: in no way can other forms of cohabitation be placed on the same level as marriage, nor can they receive legal recognition as such.”
III, 6.3 - By its interventions [ed. - in such questions as abortion and the promotion of the family], the Church’s Magisterium does not wish to exercise political power or eliminate the freedom of opinion of Catholics regarding contingent questions. Instead, it intends – as is its proper function – to instruct and illuminate the consciences of the faithful, particularly those involved in political life, so that their actions may always serve the integral promotion of the human person and the common good. The social doctrine of the Church is not an intrusion into the government of individual countries. It is a question of the lay Catholic’s duty to be morally coherent, found within one’s conscience, which is one and indivisible. There cannot be two parallel lives in their existence: on the one hand, the so-called ‘spiritual life’, with its values and demands; and on the other, the so-called ‘secular’ life, that is, life in a family, at work, in social responsibilities, in the responsibilities of public life and in culture. ”
Fact: Trustees Ida Li Preti and Norm Di Pasquale have become candidates to run in the next provincial or federal election. Fact: They have both taken an Oath to defend Catholic education. Fact: this puts them in a conflict of interest since the New Democratic Party and Liberal Party policies contradict Catholic teaching about the person, marriage, gender, abortion and euthanasia. The right action for them now is to resign immediately. They can no longer, in good conscience and good faith, effectively represent the Catholic ratepayers in their respective wards. It's time for an honest reflection. It's time move on. It's time to resign.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
