Wuerl Resigns But Remains In-Swamp

Mr Matt says,
I’m starting to think this is orchestrated sabotage of the Church, carried out by anti-Catholic operatives paid to wear cassocks and prance around like idiots.
Welcome to the realisation of the truth, Michael!

From The Remnant

After weeks of doing nothing to address what John Allen calls the most serious crisis in the Catholic Church since the Protestant Revolt, Pope Francis took a few moments off from dinking around at the Synod and demonizing Archbishop Vigano to finally accept the resignation of Donald Cardinal Wuerl--the embattled Cardinal Archbishop of Washington, D.C..
The Cardinal passed the retirement age already two years ago, but it took the unprecedented sex scandal for Francis to finally get around to accepting his resignation, if reluctantly.
The Holy Father used the opportunity "not to praise Wuerl but to bury him,” positively gushing over the Wuerl's great service, even despite mounting evidence of improprieties including complicity in sexual abuse cover-ups in Pennsylvania, which Francis, incredibly, suggested was "justified".  Indeed it must have been, since Francis will allow Wuerl to retain his Vatican offices and remain in the Archdiocese of Washington as caretaker until a successor can be appointed (which could take years).
Not to worry, though—if the Feds ever do come after him, I'm sure Donald could move into Bernard Law's old place. You know, that gorgeous Renaissance-era Roman villa which John Paul THE GREAT handed to the former head of the Boston Archdiocese after he’d been implicated in the last wave of cover-ups and sex scandals.
This Vatican II springtime is really shaping up to be a proud moment for us all. What’s next, I wonder, a short sale of St. Peter’s to Planned Parenthood in order to cover costs of the Church of Accompaniment Legal Defense Fund?
Anyway, Francis took the opportunity today to thank Cardinal Wuerl for not defending himself, while praising the Cardinal for his “nobility". I’ll pause while you read that again…. I know what you’re thinking. Is the Holy Father blind, or just flirting with this guy?
Couple follow-ups:
1) Why in Heaven’s name is Wuerl resigning if he's so doggone noble?
2) And why was it admirable for Wuerl not to defend himself? Could it be because “I let McCarrick molest boys all over heck and gone” gets a little tricky to fly? Better to just shut up and do the noble thing, i.e., resign?
So, let’s get this straight: Cardinal Wuerl is suspected of complicity in a massive sex scandal, and the Sovereign Pontiff Bishop of Rome stands in public solidarity with his erstwhile soulmate?  Are these men on drugs? I’m starting to think this is orchestrated sabotage of the Church, carried out by anti-Catholic operatives paid to wear cassocks and prance around like idiots.  Nobody could be this stupid!
Anyway, if Cardinal Wuerl ever does flees the Swamp, he’ll be bitterly missed.  After all, it was fun having someone straight from central casting heading up the Church in our nation's capital. Such a consummate showman may not come our way again:

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
