The Battle of Tours, AD 732

Charles Martel
Today is the 1286th Anniversary of one of the most decisive battles of Christendom. In fact, it might be called The Decisive Battle, because  had it been lost, the Crusades and such battles as Lepanto (1571) and the lifting of the siege of Vienna (1683) would probably not have taken place. Why? because had the jihadists won at Tours, there would likely have been no Christendom to provide the forces for the Crusades and those battles.

The jihadists had basically finished conquering Iberia, except for the Asturias, where the Reconquista began at the Battle of Covadonga, which had been fought approximately a decade before. They crossed the Pyrenees to continue what they thought would be an easy stroll through Christian France. At Tours, Charles 'the Hammer' Martel, Duke and Prince of the Franks and Mayor of the Palace, proved them wrong. Whilst we remember it as the Battle of Tours the jihadists call it معركة بلاط الشهداء (Ma'arakat Balāṭ ash-Shuhadā’, Battle of the Highway of the Martyrs) because so many of the invaders fell in the battle.

We should never forget the brave men who fell at Tours in defence of our Greco-Roman Catholic Civilisation and Culture.

We will remember them!
Memory Eternal!

Here are two short videos about the battle from Real Crusades History, an excellent resource on the history of the Crusades, which I highly recommend. I don't know of the presenter is Catholic, but he gives a very Catholic view of the Crusades.

And here is another short video from BazBattles with more military details of the battle.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
