From Joseph Sciambra
During the month of October, NDPrism, the officially recognized LGBT outreach at University of Notre Dame, will sponsor several events commemorating LGBTQ History Month; in the United States, LGBTQ History Month is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11. At Notre Dame, on October 5, 2018 there will be a “Bi Breakfast.”
Berries, Bagels and Bi-Awareness! Grab free coffee, bagels, berries, and more all while learning about the bisexual community!
PrismND is Notre Dame’s first and only official LGBTQ student organization. The organization provides programming dedicated to fostering development of the campus LGBTQ community, and raising awareness of the community’s needs – all from a Catholic lens. We hold social events every few weeks, and plan several major campus events annually – such as Coming Out Day closets in October and Stand Against Hate Week in November.
On their official Facebook page, NDPrism thanked Notre Dame President John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. for his support:
Thank you to both the University of Notre Dame President and the Vice President for showing their continued support for PrismND leadership. We hope to continue in our conjoined efforts to foster the inclusivity and sense of human dignity for all in the Notre Dame family!
The Notre Dame LGBTQ History Month is co-sponsored by the University’s Gender Relations Center. Sara Agostinelli, Assistant Director for LGBTQ Student Initiatives, is among the 6 Notre Dame faculty members who staff the Center. In an article about LGBTQ History Month, from Notre Dame’s “The Observer,” Agostinelli said:
… As much as we’re giving away free things, we’re giving away information, and I think helping dispel things people might not know or misconceptions people might have.
She continued:
I think the hope is to engage different students at different times and spaces and in what calls to them…For some students, a faith group is really what’s going to call to them and for others, it’s playing trivia for a rainbow toothbrush.
Jesuit Fordham University will also celebrate LGBTQ History during the month of October with several events which will include a “Drag Show.”

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
