Happy (Official Canadian) Birthday, Your Majesty!

This year May Two-four is actually on 24 May!

HM Wearing the Order of Canada, of
Which She is Sovereign
Today is Victoria Day in Canada, the last Monday preceding 25 May. HM Queen Victoria's birthday was 24 May, and until 1952, the holiday was kept on that date and was called Empire Day in honour of the great Empire over which she ruled. In Canada, it is the observance of Her Majesty the Queen's Official Birthday, observances of which vary throughout the Commonwealth Realms, often depending on the season of the year.

In Canada, it is also the unofficial opening of summer, much like Memorial Day in the US. It is officially observed at each Provincial Legislature and on Parliament Hill by the playing of the Royal Anthem, 'God Save the Queen', and the firing of a 21 gun salute.

Unofficially, it is observed by picnics, cookouts, and drinking beer. In parts of Canada it is known as May Two-Four; a double entendre that refers both to the date around which the holiday falls (May 24) and the Canadian slang for a case of twenty-four beers (a "two-four"), a drink popular during the long weekend.

I'd like to wish Her Majesty a Happy (Official Canadian) Birthday, and all my Canadian friends a Happy May Two Four!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
