The Hieromartyr Therapontus, Bishop of Cyprus, lived a life of asceticism in a monastery, and afterwards, he served as a bishop on the island of Cyprus. At the time of the persecution under Diocletian (284-305), Saint Therapontus bravely confessed the name of Christ and died a martyr's death. The relics of the hieromartyr were at first located on Cyprus and were glorified by numerous miracles. Later, in the year 806, they were transferred to Constantinople. The relics were moved because of the danger of invasion by the Saracens. As the ship sailed to Constantinople, myrrh began to flow from the relics, and travellers on the ship were miraculously saved during a storm by their prayers to Saint Therapontus.
Upon arrival at Constantinople, the relics of the hieromartyr were placed in a temple built in honour of the Icon of the Mother of God of Eleousa or “the Merciful” (November 12).
In the year 806, the relics were again transferred into a temple built in honour of the Hieromartyr Therapontus, myrrh flowed from them, and miracles took place. Through the prayers of Saint Therapontus, those who are seriously ill are healed, and the dying restored to life.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
