Some Thoughts on Queensland and the Seal of the Confessional

Not only Queensland but other jurisdictions have been attacking the Church under the guise of 'protecting children'. As I've mulled over these attacks, a few thoughts have occured to me.

First, all of these laws assume that child molesters will actually avail themselves of the Sacrament. I have serious doubts about the truth of that assumption. I think it much more likely that the poorly catechised sinners will take a cue from society at large which is laying the groundwork for the 'legalisation' of paedophilia, because it's a 'valid sexual orientation', and combine that with the 'follow your conscience (no matter how ill formed it is)' catechesis being dished out by modernist heretics, and decide there is no reason to confess it.

Secondly, I see a very slippery slope. If the State can mandate that the Seal be broken for one crime, why not others? I can see this one crime growing into a list of crimes for which a Priest can be punished for not reporting to the authorities.

And last, but not least, the proof that this has nothing to do with protecting the children, but with attacking the Church. It is the perfect set up for activists to target Priests. Envision this scenario. An activist, who has NOT committed the crime goes to confession. He 'confesses' to the crime, recording his 'confession' on his smart phone. The Priest, honouring the Seal of the Confessional, does not report it to the authorities. The activist then goes to the police, tells them what he has done and produces the recording as evidence.

I would hope that they would investigate the activist, but if there is no evidence of the abuse, only one 'crime' has been committed, the failure of the Priest to report the matter to the authorities. It's a win-win for the anti-Catholic activist. If the Priest does report it to the authorities, he's automatically excommunicated. If he doesn't, he goes to jail for protecting the Seal of the Confessional.

St John of Nepomuk, Martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, pray for Priests!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
