My Geekiness

I have two areas of serious geekiness. One is the calendar, as you may have guessed from my Happy New Year post yesterday, and my long overdue promised post on the Computus.

The other is language. I'm the sort of person who will be reading, see an interesting word, and wonder about its etymology, then go off on a research trip through the net reading about a single word.

I have a couple of favourite YouTube channels dealing with language. One is Name Explain in which the fellow takes a name of a country, an animal, a town, etc., and explains its derivation.

The other is NativLang. Here, the presenter deals with languages as a whole, language family trees, history of individual languages, and that sort of thing. Here are two videos I watched last night, both quite short, on the history of the Latin alphabet.

Check these channels out if you share my geekiness!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
