On this day,nineteen years ago, the United States suffered its biggest loss of life ever in a hostile action. It resulted in the deaths of 2977 innocent people, including 415 first responders and 55 military personnel. There were also over 6,000 non-fatal casualties. Most, of course, were American, but there were 372 citizens of other countries who died.
I was working in store level management for a retail drugstore chain. I had just been transferred to a new store. I had met the staff at a meeting on Monday evening, but Tuesday was my first day in the store.
We sold TV sets and we usually had one on display on a shelf above the checkout counter, but it was never turned on. When I came into the store that morning, not only was the set turned on, the entire staff was gathered round, watching it. I asked what was going on. My general manager told me to shut up and watch. I did, just as the second plane impacted the tower.
9/11 has become one of those moments in my life that I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when it happened, the others being 22 November 1963 (JFK's assassination), 28 January 1986 (Challenger explosion)n and 9 November 1989 (Fall of the Berlin Wall).
In memory of those 2977 men and women who died on that day and those who died later of after effects, all killed by the Jihad!
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget! DEUS VULT!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
