Lest We Forget!

Nineteen years ago today, at 08.46 EDT, the USA sustained its greatest loss of life from an enemy attack in its history. 2,977 people were killed, surpassing the death toll, both military and civilian, of the sneak attack by the Empire of Japan on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Included in the fatalities were 412 first responders. They comprised:
  • 343 firefighters (including a chaplain and two paramedics) of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY);
  • 37 police officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department (PAPD);
  • 23 police officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD); and
  • 8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics from private emergency medical services;
  • 1 patrolman from the New York Fire Patrol

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
