The Epitome of Crass Consumer Capitalism

My Cuter & Shorter Half brought me a picture today. It page 1 of the current issue of 'US Weekly', a glossy 'celebrity gossip' magazine. The picture is of a model in designer clothing. Here it is.

Since the text at the bottom isn't quite readable, let me recap it for you. The coat this somewhat attractive, but obviously malnourished, young woman is wearing is a Burberry, costing $6,250. Her patent-leather pants are RtA Brand, whatever that is, and cost $1,095. The top she's wearing comes from Wolford, and is just a measly $275. Her Gianvito Rossi boots would set you back $1,075. The bag she's carrying is a hefty $1,350.

Now, maths are not my strong suit, but the Cuter and Shorter Half and my Windows 10 calculator agree that this 'ensemble' adds up to a total cost of $10,045!

This would take a woman working at minimum wage thirty five weeks, or almost nine months, to be able to afford this ensemble, if no taxes or other deductions were withheld from her pay cheque. For a woman between 16 and 19, making the median income of $21,008 per annum, it would be just about six months income, again, as long as there were no deductions. The top median income for working females in the US is for women between 35 and 44 at $45,604 per annum or $877 per week. Thus, at the top median earning capacity of a woman in the US, if she had absolutely no deductions, it would take her almost 12 weeks or three months to buy this cute little outfit.

Am I the only one that sees something wrong here?

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
