Sunday 18th March 2018: D-Day For Freedom of Speech In the UK

I am no fan of Tommy Robinson, but Speaker's Corner is (was?) sacrosanct. If an Englishman can be removed by the police from Speaker's Corner, free speech is dead in Britain!

Background:

This past week:

  • Tommy Robinson was denied his free speech rights at the very home of free speech -- Hyde Park's Speaker's Corner:

This must STOP. The English are fighting back -- NOW!

What:    Save free speech in the UK
When:   Sunday, March 18, 3:00 PM
Where:  Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park, London

Sunday 18th March 2018:
D-Day for freedom of speech in the UK

Sunday 18th March 2018 may well go down in history. It may be remembered as a dark day in the history of Britain or as the point at which the ordinary people of Britain said ‘enough’ to the government, politicians, police officers, spooks, institutions, the education system, and the hard left. It may be the day the campaign for the return of our unrestricted freedom of speech in this United Kingdom is reignited.

At 3pm tomorrow, Tommy Robinson will read out Martin’s Sellner’s speech at Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park. Mr Robinson has made no secret of his intention to speak there and has invited everyone to attend, as I truly hope people do.

Let’s not beat about the bush, though. The so-called ‘anti fascists’ – the intolerant, bigoted, self-appointed authoritarian thugs – will no doubt be there in force to prevent him from being heard. They are violent and their actions are ignored and, even indulged, by those who command our police force.

If you are able to attend on Sunday, do not lower yourselves to Antifa’s level. Be sober, be presentable, be resolute, be peaceful in the face of extreme provocation. This will be difficult but you must do this and here is why: by meeting violence and intimidation with peaceful, dignified protest, you will force your opponents to do one of two things: to stop and talk to you to discuss your differences like grown-ups or you will expose them as the authoritarian oppressors that they are – the mask, pardon the metaphor, will slip once and for all. Look how effective this approach has been in Germany.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no specific Act of Parliament which protects you from being arrested by the police for speaking there, if they deem your speech to be breaking the law. Tradition means that unless they get a specific complaint, the police tend to just keep the peace there and we will all be watching with baited breath to see what happens. Will the police protect freedom of speech?

To those commanding the police on Sunday and to the Home Secretary, I will say this:

The nation is watching you. We know how you have used the powers we granted you to defend us from our enemies to persecute and hound this man. To smear and intimidate him. We also know that if you can do that to him, you can do the same to any of us and we also know that he is not alone in those who you have tried to silence. Please stop doing this. Mr Robinson is not your enemy and he is not ‘far right’ – a fact that is obvious to anyone who has spent an hour watching his speech to the Oxford Union or reading his book.

I remind you of the words of the Public Order Act 1986, Section 3A, Paragraph 29J:

“Protection of freedom of expression

Nothing in this Part shall be read or given effect in a way which prohibits or restricts discussion, criticism or expressions of antipathy, dislike, ridicule, insult or abuse of particular religions or the beliefs or practices of their adherents, or of any other belief system or the beliefs or practices of its adherents, or proselytising or urging adherents of a different religion or belief system to cease practicing their religion or belief system.”

A section that you appear to ignore with impunity when it suits your purposes.

We also know that you will try and shut down the speech ‘for his own safety’ either before the event or when he is travelling to the event. Doing this will confirm that you are simply acting on behalf, and in the interests of, the violent Antifa protestors who will be there to force you to do exactly that. In the interest of freedom of speech in this country, this cannot be allowed to happen. You might think that you have a mob of a few hundred violent thugs on your hands, but there are millions upon millions of conservatives, liberals and social democrats, watching both here, in the UK and across the world to see for themselves if the once, great democracy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has fallen to oppression and tyranny. It is your duty to protect the rights of citizens to peaceful protest. Ensure that you do your duty.

Police officers, the Home Secretary, Mr Mayor, we were once a beacon of hope and freedom in a world of darkness and oppression. Do not let that beacon die.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
