I am still addicted to nicotine, and I use snus to satisfy the craving. When I quit smoking and started using snus, people said that it would give me lip or mouth cancer. A friend said, 'Let's be honest. Your heart or your lungs are going to kill you long before you develop cancer'.
I told my doctor what she had said, and he agreed. He said as long as it kept me from smoking, if I couldn't break the nicotine habit, to keep doing it.
Anyway, my preferred snus is Kapten Extra Stark Salmiak from Sweden. For those who don't know, salmiak means that it is flavoured with ammonium chloride, but in Scandinavia it also means that it has a liquorice flavour. I am a great fan of liquorice. I don't say 'black liquorice' because all liquorice is black. I know that many misguided souls call a certain red sweet that comes in twists 'liquorice', but it is not!
When I can get to my 'liquorice pusher' I buy as much salmiak liquorice, in different forms from different Scandanavian countries, as I can afford since it's not exactly readily available in SE Nebraska.
But anyway, to the point of this post. Each can of snus, regardless of brand, has on it the Swedish notice, 'Denna tobaksvara skadar hälsan och beroendeframkallande', which in English means, 'This tobacco product is harmful to health and addictive'. Well, duh! I am a reasonably intellegient man of 70 years. I have paid at least some attention to the news over the past 40 or 50 of those years. I think I would have at least an inkling that tobacco is addictive and just might indeed be harmful to my health.
However, the United States obviously thinks that just one warning is not enough. On each can of my snus are two adhesive stickers, which I've scanned below. Exactly how stupid do they think the average person is? Given the current health education in our schools, I doubt that even the young men who take up snus or its American equivalent snuff or 'dip' could be the least bit ignorant of its possible effects.
Just one more example of the Nanny State at work!

Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
