Another Essay From Jack Seney

Jack has some thoughts on a recent contestant on 'America's Got Talent'. Here is the young lady he's talking about.

I am someone who started following "America's Got Talent" on TV because I have a lady friend who is a serious fan of it and with whom I want to be conversant on it. I am not a variety-show type and while I have been impressed by some acts on AGT over the years, my general attitude has been one of mild disdain, especially regarding the corporate show-biz management of the show and its corny crowd-pleasing presentation, which in recent years has been combined with all manner of political correctness.

I used to rest my case with the fact that this is a show that proudly featured Howard Stern as a judge. Stern is an utter sleazebag in all ways and, like some sort of cockroach (with apologies to the cockroaches) has made himself very healthy and wealthy off of the filth, ignorance and low taste of America. Not some underground punk poet who can write but an establishment-backed official clown with pornographic tendencies, he was featured as an honored, respected judge on AGT. My lady friend, not knowing his story, thought he was an upright person.

Such things colored my thinking about AGT until this week, when the show featured a contestant who immediately did much to redress its many sins.

9-year-old Victory Brinker came onto the show all by her little self and walked out onto the stage alone. Oddly, a pigeon, also known as a dove, was present in the large auditorium as though there just for her. All we were told was that she was from Pennsylvania and wanted to be a singer. Her obviously loving mother stood just offstage watching her. I thought Victory looked like a nice kid but was entirely neutral while half-watching via You Tube on my phone.
Then some recorded music swelled up and Victory started to sing. But instead of the usual pseudo-sad, thickly tuned pop songs, she began to sing opera! The voice of a longtime diva emanated from her little self in a resounding cry, and an audience presumably knowing little about opera immediately erupted in applause.

The roars of applause continued as Victory sang her way through "Juliette's Waltz" from Goudot's 1867 opera of "Romeo and Juliette." The miraculous sight of a little girl singing like an opera veteran brought shock to the usual stony visage of judge Simon Cowell, confusion to judge Howie Mandel who couldn't seem to believe his eyes and ears, and rapturous love to the female judges. One can only conclude that this is the same stunned reaction that greeted the discovery of extremely rare child prodigies throughout the ages!

As Victory gorgeously drew her aria to its glorious conclusion, the house was nearly brought down by the level of applause. But there was a problem. Despite Victory's obvious brilliance, all of the "Golden Buzzer" contestants, those specially chosen by an individual judge to go straight to the finals without further ado, had already been picked in previous weeks.

But there was a conference including co-host Terry Crews, and in an unprecedented move, ALL FIVE judges and hosts hit the Golden Buzzer for Victory! To show you what kind of child she is, her first reaction amid all the deafening cheers and falling confetti was to run to her mother.

Now, was this a staged event to some extent? In all likelihood! But there was no staging Victory's blessed ability and her natural, God-given innocence and had this not been present, neither could anything else have.

If there is to be hope for a place like America, it must fully support people like Victory Brinker, onward to triumph on America's Got Talent and then onward so that she can train in the great opera houses of Europe toward a divine career.

God has given rare children like her to us all so that we may support them as they bring something higher and more beautiful into the world. So let us do that very thing!
