Why Do They Hate the TLM?

The question was asked by an online friend, thus:

Yesterday my priest gave an announcement before the homily which has left me deeply perplexed. These were the bullet points, as verbatim as I recall them:

There were complaints registered at the other Latin Mass-offering parish about some people not wearing masks.

There are people at the diocesan office who do NOT like this Mass and wish to see it disappear into obscurity.

We don't want to give them any excuse to shut down our Latin Mass.

Please reconsider attending with masks in the future.

I assume since he is one of the few in the area who can say the TLM, Father means this as a friendly nudge as opposed to a mean-spirited ultimatum.

I know there are die-hard champions of the Novus Ordo Missae, but I haven't been exposed to their arguments against the TLM. My question is why are there so many clergy who hate the TLM? So against it that they want to strip rights away from the faithful who prefer it? What are they so opposed to?

Here is my answer:

To a great extent, it is psychological. Most of the Bishops, many Pastors, and senior Chancery staff, including laity, are of an age that means they were formed in the first 'glow' of the 'Springtime of Vatican II'. They have invested their entire lives in the modernist revolution brought on by the Council. They cannot bring themselves to admit that the Council was a major mistake, that the 'reforms' are a miserable failure, and that the whole mess the Church is in is a direct result of THEIR actions after the Council.

As a result, anything that reminds them of their failure must be fought tooth and nail. The fact that TLM Parishes and Orders are growing and thriving is like a red flag to a bull to them.  Catholics who prefer the TLM and have the audacity to actually BELIEVE the Catholic Faith handed down through the ages and who try to LIVE that Faith are a constant reminder of their dismal failure and for those who actually retain some Faith must be a constant worry as to the Judgement they will face. How do they expect to explain the vast damage they've done to the Mystical Body of Christ and the myriads of souls lost through their actions?

  1. Yes pride is indeed a good explaination of their bitterness,

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
