Bishop Barron Changes His Mind?

So Bishop Barron has decided that some people may go to hell after all? But, seemingly, only those who call out his egregious heresies.

By a Facebook Friend of Mine

So Bishop Barron of California is finally calling on some people to repent and avoid going to Hell. But only because those people have "sinned" against Barron himself!

Barron in effect accuses of "calumny" anyone who criticizes his repeatedly unorthodox public utterances, and angrily calls for them to "knock it off."

Such are tactics meant to distract from reasonable criticisms by shifting the focus to the way such criticisms are made. And this is directed not at sedevacantists or SSPXers, but at faithful Catholics remaining in the Church and trying to improve her as Christ would have them.

The only one who should be knocking anything off is Barron, who should take the mote out of his own eye before trying to take the speck from his brother's.

Traditionalists who go too far already get upbraided regularly online - by other traditionalists. They do not need to hear anything from Barron, who is captured on video not only failing to preach the gospel to unbelievers when he had the chance, but of encouraging unbelievers to remain and be happy in their unbelief because God is supposedly sure to save them anyway.

There is no doubt about this because Barron is right there on video saying it. If someone else is a bit impolite or off-color in their manner when they point this out, that seems a far less "sin" than the apparent ones that Barron states publicly for all the world to hear.

Barron and others like him have been destabilizing the Church for decades and need to be challenged by faithfully traditional bishops, rank and file religious and laypeople.

Such work is not likely to be pleasant and might involve perceived "nastiness" that the Barrons of the world, sharply stung by the truth, will defensively call sinful and calumnous. Any actual sin and calumny, though, already gets its correction from traditional bishops and does not require the self-serving pontification of a Barron.

Barron is obviously free to say whatever he pleases, but the same applies to his well- intentioned critics as well.

  1. Thank you! He is a dangerous poseur. Dolan used to be such a "celebrity" and "orthodox" bishop. Barron is turning out the same.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
