The musings and meandering thoughts of a crotchety old man as he observes life in the world and in a small, rural town in South East Nebraska. My Pledge-Nulla dies sine linea-Not a day with out a line.

Word of the Day: Magi
MAGI. Members of the priestly caste of the Mazdean religion, with special
reference to the wise men who brought gifts to Jesus at his birth. The appearance
of an unusual star caused them to leave the East in search of a king of whose
birth the star was a sign. Herod asked them to return after finding the Infant.
But the Magi, warned in a dream, went back to the East by another way. They
are described as bringing symbolic gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Their
names, Gaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, are first mentioned in the sixth century.
The Adoration of the Magi early became one of the most popular subjects of representation
in art, the first extant painting being in the Cappela Greca of the Priscilla
Catacomb (Rome), dating from the second century.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
