King Sigurd's Viking Crusade - The Norwegian Crusade, 1110

Who knew? We all know of the Franks, the Normans, and the Imperial Crusades, but a Norwegian Crusade?

It was led by King Sigurd I Magnusson, called Sigurd the Crusader, a descendant of vikings and the great grandson of Harald III Sigurdsson Hardrada, who lies in the 'seven feet of English soil, or as much more as he is taller than other men' promised him by Harold Godwinsson, Last King of the English

His great grandfather has been called 'the last viking'. I think Sigurd the Crusader deserves the title more. He went aviking for Christ!

His Crusade lasted from 1107 to 1111, not long after the First Crusade. It was the first time a king led a crusade to Jerusalem.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
