Word of the Day: Madonna

MADONNA. My lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary, either as a title or representation of the Virgin. Often combined with another title, e.g., Madonna della Strada, Our Lady of the Way. (Etym. Italian madonna, from mia donna, my lady; from Latin mea domina, my lady.)

My pet peeve? People saying 'The Madonna'. Note that it means 'My Lady', so what they're actually saying is 'The My Lady'!

Oh, and as vile, pornographic, and anti-Catholic as the aging and haggard 'entertainer' Madonna is, she didn't adopt the name as a blasphemy. Her baptismal name is Madonna Louise Ciccone.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
