Shortly after I posted Latest Betrayals By The Pope And Cupich, an old friend of mine, A Kansas boy like me, but not a Catholic, asked me this in a comment on Facebook,
Hey Jovan. Where is all this going? I don't have a dog in the hunt so I defer to your opinion. If large numbers consider the pope and other church leaders betrayers or illegitimate what does that do to your church at large? Will there even be a pope? I keep thinking of St. Malachy's list of popes and this one is his last. I thought a war or holocaust might be the end of the popes not scandal.
My reply,
The Church will survive, and as far as Malachy's prophecies (if they are authentic) go, they can easily be interpreted as leaving a gap between 'The Glory of the Olives' (Benedict XVI) and Peter the Roman, with no indication of how many Popes there might be in that gap.
Considering that no one had ever heard of the prophecies until 1595 (Malachy died in the early 1100s) and that they're easy to interpret up until 1595, and vague and hard to interpret after 1595, I personally think they're a crock of shit.
Francis is still the Pope. I sincerely hope and pray that God will remove him by whatever means He thinks fit. And I hope and pray that the next Pope will actually be a Catholic and not an anti-Catholic communist like Francis.
Some people will leave, but the overwhelming majority will ride it out. For a historical comparison, look up the Pornocracy of the 10th century, and the Arian Crisis from the 4th to the 7th century. No betting man would have taken odds the Church would survive either of those, but we did, and we'll survive this and come out stronger than before, just as we did after the earlier crises.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
