On October 1, Pope Leo XIV will do something with the rosary that no pope has ever done: kneel in the Vatican Gardens before a replica of the Lourdes grotto with as many as a thousand children, and personally open a worldwide week of children praying the rosary for peace. Most people will scroll past it, because most people assume the rosary is just repetition, beads, and an old devotion to Mary that quietly pushes Jesus off to the side. But the prayer in his hands is not a distraction from Jesus. It is the gospel itself, prayed slowly, on purpose. And from the Amazon to Sudan to Zimbabwe, those children are not decoration. They are the front line. The rosary's roots run straight through Israel. In David's kingdom, the queen was not the king's wife but his mother, the gebirah, who carried the people's needs to the king, which is why Mary stands where she stands.
