The surest way to destroy a person is not to begin by corrupting his actions, but by weakening his mind. Once he loses the habits of attention, reason, self-criticism, and conformity to truth, he becomes almost defenseless against lies that flatter his pride, excuse his appetites, and redirect him away from God.
