Anglo Saxon Women Thought the Vikings Were Fit

From Past and Curious

In this video, I examine medieval accounts that describe Viking men as unusually well groomed, stylish, and socially confident — so much so that Christian chroniclers complained they were undermining English society. I look at where the idea of the “dirty Viking” really comes from, contrast Arab and Christian perspectives on Viking hygiene, and explore how grooming, clothing, and manners made the Danes stand out in Anglo-Saxon England. Using primary sources from medieval chroniclers, archaeology from Viking settlements, and contemporary letters warning against copying “pagan” fashions, this video asks a simple question with a complicated answer: were Vikings considered attractive — and if so, why? As always, this isn’t about fantasy Vikings or modern stereotypes, but about what the historical evidence actually says. Let me know what you think in the comments — and if you enjoy this kind of evidence-led history, please like, subscribe, and share. It genuinely helps more than you might think.
