May 3 - A Major Dedication: the Church of the Immaculata, in St. Marys, Kansas (First Post)

I understand the ceremony will be live-streamed for those not living near enough to attend in person. I will post the link when I find it.

From Rorate Cæli

The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) will host the consecration of the new Immaculata church on May 3, 2023, on the grounds of the historic St. Mary’s Academy & College. Seating over 1,500 people, this will be the largest Catholic church in Kansas and the largest of the Society in the world.

Bishop Bernard Fellay, an auxiliary bishop of the SSPX, will be the celebrant. More information on the live ceremony of the consecration of this gorgeous Neo-Romanesque gem built in the middle of America, a declaration of belief in this age of unbelief, will be posted by Rorate soon, as well as many pictures of the church and celebration.

The consecration of a church is a Catholic ceremony that turns an ordinary building into a church specially dedicated to the service of God. The traditional rite of consecrating a church will be used, followed by the first Mass to be celebrated in the Church. The ceremony will last approximately four and a half hours. An open house will follow, to which all are welcome.

*The Jesuits founded the campus as a mission to the Potawatomi Indians in 1848.

*The Society of St. Pius X acquired the campus in 1978.

*The original Immaculata, at the center of campus, was destroyed by fire in 1978 during renovations.

*Fundraising for the new Immaculata began in 1978; construction began on the new site in 2020.

*Dedicated only to the traditional Latin Mass and other sacraments according to the traditional rites of the Catholic Church.

*It is over twelve stories tall, over 65,000 square feet large inside,

*Founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the Society of St. Pius X is the largest traditional Catholic priestly society in the world, with over 700 priests and countless Brothers and Sisters around the globe.

[Thanks to the SSPX United States district for the information. Thanks to Shawn Tribe for the pictures provided by the architects and developers to his Liturgical Arts Journal.]

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
