Why the 16th Apparition at Lourdes Is the Most Important of Them All

From Totus Catholica

There were 18 apparitions at Lourdes, and only once did the lady say who she was. On 25 March 1858, the feast of the Annunciation, Bernadette Soubirous asked her name gently, three times. The lady raised her eyes to heaven, joined her hands, and answered in the old mountain dialect: I am the Immaculate Conception. Not, I was conceived without sin. I am it. And just over three years earlier, on 8 December 1854, Pope Pius IX had solemnly defined that exact dogma in Ineffabilis Deus, a phrase a poor, barely catechized 14 year old could not possibly have invented. That one sentence is why the 16th apparition matters more than all the others put together. The phrase did not come from 1854. Its roots run to a golden box in ancient Israel. The ark of the covenant, Aron HaBrit, was overlaid with pure gold, carried the presence of God, and was overshadowed by the glory, the same word Luke uses when the Holy Spirit overshadows Mary. Jeremiah hid the ark until God would gather his people and show mercy, and in Revelation 11, John sees the ark in heaven, and in the very next breath, a woman clothed with the sun. The ark that was lost returns as a person. So this week, read Luke 1 slowly and watch for the ark hiding in plain sight, then pray one decade of the rosary. The old ark carried the law. The new ark carried Life himself. In this video: • Why only one of the 18 apparitions carries her name, and why the strange grammar is the whole point • Kecharitomene: Gabriel greets Mary with a title, not a name, and the Hebrew chen behind it • The ark of the covenant pattern running through Luke 1, in plain sight • Romans 3:23 answered: Mary needed Christ more than any of us, not less • Why "convenient Catholic theater" fails: the definition came three years before the voice ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 The One Time She Said Her Name 1:08 The Dogma Defined Three Years Earlier 2:01 Kecharitomene: A Title, Not a Name 3:35 The 16th Letter, Signed in Full 5:03 The Ark of the Covenant and Luke 1:35 7:10 The Misconception Almost Everyone Has 7:27 Romans 3:23 and God My Savior πŸ“– SCRIPTURE REFERENCED • Genesis 3:15: total enmity between the woman and the serpent, where the Church first saw the new Eve. • Luke 1:28 with 1:35: Gabriel greets Mary with kecharitomene, full of grace, and the Holy Spirit will overshadow her, the very word Scripture used for the ark. • 2 Samuel 6 with Luke 1: David leaps before the ark, John leaps in the womb; the ark stays three months, and Mary stays three months. • 2 Maccabees 2: Jeremiah hides the ark, the place unknown until God gathers his people and shows mercy. • Revelation 11: John sees the ark of the covenant in heaven, and in the very next breath, a woman clothed with the sun. • Romans 3:23 with Luke 1:47: all have sinned, and Mary rejoices in God my savior. The objection, answered honestly. ⛪ FROM THE CHURCH FATHERS & THE CATECHISM • St. Irenaeus of Lyons (2nd century): the knot of Eve's disobedience was loosed by Mary's obedience. • St. Maximilian Kolbe: spent years meditating on a soul so united to the Holy Spirit that she could name herself by the gift itself. • CCC 411 and 491: the new Eve, and Mary preserved free from original sin from the first instant of her existence. πŸ“œ SOURCES & FURTHER READING • The definition: 8 December 1854, Pius IX solemnly defined the Immaculate Conception in Ineffabilis Deus, just over three years before the voice at the grotto. • The apparition: 25 March 1858, the feast of the Annunciation. Asked her name three times, the lady answered in the old mountain dialect, Que soy era Immaculada Councepciou. • The witness: Bernadette Soubirous, poor, often sick, barely catechized, repeated the words all the way home so she would not lose them. • Pius XII, Fulgens Corona (1953): this apparition seemed to confirm from heaven what the Church had defined on earth. • The approval: in 1862, the local bishop approved the apparitions after a careful inquiry, slow, skeptical, exact. πŸ”— EXPLORE MORE 🌍 Website: https://totuscatholica.org/ Rosary Guide: https://totuscatholica.org/rosary ✉️ Contact: https://totuscatholica.org/contact πŸ” Examination of Conscience: https://catholicexaminationofconscien... πŸ“š Free eBooks: https://buymeacoffee.com/totuscatholi... πŸ‘₯ Become a Totus Insider: https://buymeacoffee.com/totuscatholi...

The French People Loved This Layman So Much They Made Him Archbishop

Today is the Feast of St Remigius, or Remy, one of the Patrons of France. Called the "Apostle of the Franks", he baptised King Clovis, whose wife, St Clothilde, is celebrated on 3 June.

From Aleteia

By Philip Kosloski

St. Remy wasn't even a priest when they asked him to lead their diocese.

Bishops today are appointed by the pope, who in turn listens to recommendations from his fellow bishops. Typically candidates are priests who have proven themselves in leadership positions and are deemed ready for a larger assignment.

Surprisingly, this practice, which seems so normal to us today, is relatively new. In ages past, it didn’t always happen that way.

For example, during the 5th century there was a man in France named Remy (Remigius) who dedicated himself at an early age to the service of God. After studying for a few years he removed himself from public life and became a hermit, praying to God night and day. His life was surrounded with miracles and people knew of his holiness and wisdom.

When the archdiocese of Rheims was left without an archbishop, the entire people knew exactly who they wanted to lead them.

The priests and people of the city went to Remy’s hermitage and carried him off to the cathedral. He was only 22 years old at the time, but they were adamant that he was to be their new bishop. They regarded him as a holy man and believed he would lead them in the right direction.

He consented to the appointment and was ordained a priest and bishop, having never been a pastor of a parish and having little knowledge of Church governance.

Regardless of his lack of qualifications, Remy became a great bishop of the region and even baptized the pagan King Clovis I, King of the Franks.

St. Remy is now known as one of the patron saints of France.

The Power of One: 5 Times a Pope Ignored His Advisors

From Purely Catholic

History often views the papacy as a monolith, but behind closed doors, some of the most consequential turns in history happened because a single pope ignored his advisors and trusted his own instincts. Today, I’m looking at five extraordinary moments when a pope rejected the collective wisdom of his advisors to chart a radically independent course.
