Word of the Day: Seven Councils
SEVEN COUNCILS. The first seven ecumenical councils of the Church, namely Nicaea (A.D. 325), Constantinople I (381), Ephesus (431), Chalcedon (451), Constantinople II (553), Constantinople III (680-81), and Nicaea II (787). They are the only councils on which the Eastern and Western Churches agree and among the Eastern Churches separated from Rome are the only test of orthodoxy.
