GAUDETE SUNDAY. Third Sunday of Advent, so named from the opening antiphon of the Introit Gaudete in Domino semper (Rejoice in the Lord always). On this Sunday rose vestments are permitted in the Eucharistic liturgy. (Etym. Latin gaudete, rejoice.) See also LAETARE SUNDAY.
