Two Excellent Resources I Recently Found

Whilst I am no canonist, I do have an interest in Canon Law, parallel with my interest in Roman Law. I was frustrated for years that there was no English translation of the 1917 Pio-Benedictine Code. Finally, about 20 years ago, Dr Edward Peters, an eminent canonist, published such a translation. Unfortunately, at $50.00, I couldn't justify the purchase for something I only referenced once in awhile.

Then, recently, I was trying to answer a question on a forum. Someone had posted a Canon, and another user asked from which Code it came, 1917 or 1983. I was looking for a 'concordance' of the two Codes, so that I could find out if there was such a Canon in both, as there often is.

However, before I found the concordance, I found THIS! Dr Peters' English translation of the 1917 Pio-Benedictine Code of Canon Law, all 660 pages of it in pdf.

The 1917 or Pio-Benedictine Code of Canon Law

The link initiates a download.

But then, I did find the concordance, which cross references all the Canons in both Codes, showing whether the same Canon occurs in both.

The link downloads an Excel spreadsheet.

If anyone shares my curiosity about Canon Law, I hope this will be helpful.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
