I was just chatting on Facebook with a fellow Eastern Catholic. He pointed out that many Western Rite Catholics have no idea that there is an Eastern Catholic Church, or , to be more precise, Eastern Catholic Churches, since there are actually 23 different sui generis (autonomous) Catholic Churches of the Eastern Rites, each of which is fully Catholic and in communion both with the Pope and each other. And, I told him how I once wasted an hour and a half trying, without success, to convince a Latin that I'm actually a Catholic!
In an effort to let Western or Latin Catholics know that we exist, I'm going to start including notes on Eastern Feasts in my 'midnight posts'. It won't be as regular as my posts from In Lumine Fidei, because I don't have a link to anything nearly that complete, but I will post the major Feasts and Fasts and any material I can find about related customs.
My sources will be pretty well limited to the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, because those two have the most presence in Canada and the US and therefore are easiest to find material about the Calendar online.
On nights there are no Feasts or Fast of which to make note, I may post about the different Churches, the families of Rites they use and a bit about their history.
