Way to tarnish the Canadian name!
Even though Canada and the U.K. are basically BFFs, one restaurant in England apparently knows shockingly little about one of our favourite dishes.
Just look at this post, which has been making the rounds on Imgur:
While we can’t verify the authenticity of the image, we can verify that piling a bunch of foods on top of a french fry platter does not magically make something “poutine”, as much of the world seems to believe.
Poutine, as every Canadian knows, is a very simple-yet-precise dish–an art, if you will. And it is always made up of the same three ingredients: French fries, gravy and cheese curds. And they must be cheese curds–not shredded cheese, not cheddar cheese, and certainly not “cheese buts”, whatever those even are. Once you have those three ingredients, you have yourself some poutine, and additional toppings can be added if you wish.

See? Nice and simple.
Now, normally, we wouldn’t be too picky about the toppings the restaurant chooses as long as they get the base recipe correct. But for the “Quebec” example in this eatery, staff appear to have chosen onions as their topping of choice. Yes, onions. Fries, gravy, cheese and onions. If this is supposed to be some kind of donair-poutine franken-dish, it’s missing the mark on both fronts. They could’ve at least dumped some bacon bits on it or something.
Furthermore, we don’t understand why “Orlando” is on the list at all. Orlando ≠ Canada. And the American version of poutine *cringe* also misses two of the three key ingredients, excluding both gravy and–dare we say–cheese curds. It’s practically sacrilege.
We’re not sure what’s going on here, but we think Canada should send the Queen some honourary poutine to help straighten this all out.
