French President: 'France Is Under Attack'

French President Emmanuel Macron sent a message according to which “France is under attack”.

As reported by kathimerini.gr, the French president went to the scene where the savage massacre took place, in a church in Nice, from which at least three people lost their lives.

Moreover, Emmanuel Macron addressed the French nation: “Our country is under attack by Islamist terrorists.” “They are attacking France because of the values of freedom and the desire of Paris not to succumb to terrorism,” he added.

At the same time, the French president expressed support for the country’s universal community and also referred to the incident that took place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. He said he would expand the deployment of large numbers of troops to protect important French sites, such as places of worship and schools.

It is noteworthy that France has sounded the alarm and increased the protection measures in its territories. Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that the government’s response to the attack would be harsh and relentless.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Paris stressed that the citizens of Nice would receive support by the Parisians.

Some information about the identity of the attacker

French police are carrying out investigations in order to determine whether the attacker in the church in Nice was on the list of suspected terrorists.

The police announced that the attacker was injured during his arrest. However, he was conscious and took responsibility for the attack, as during his arrest he cried out “Allahu Akbar”.

According to a source that is involved in the investigations, the perpetrator was 25 years old and his name was Brahim, while it is believed that he acted alone.

At the same time, according to police sources, among the victims is a 70-year-old woman, whose throat was cut by the attacker while she was inside the church.

In addition, the man who was stabbed to death was the church’s sexton. The third victim was a woman in her 40s who was stabbed inside the church but managed to escape and take refuge in a nearby bar. However, she later succumbed to her injuries. According to the same sources, there are six people injured but the toll is not final yet.

As reported by the AFP, the attacker is a 21-year-old Tunisian man who arrived in Europe via the Italian island of Lampedusa in late September and in France in early October. He arrived in late September in Lampedusa where he was quarantined by the Italian authorities before being called to leave Italy. He has been in France since the beginning of October.
