A short, but powerful, essay by Fr Heilman comparing our Bishops to the weak parents of today. They are supposed to be our Fathers in God, after all.

One of the ongoing themes I have seen throughout my priesthood is “strong parents” who, while raising their children, were weak, and they lament. The Church, during those days, was (and still is, in many places) discouraging strength and striving, much like the culture was discouraging parental discipline and, instead, encouraging “participation trophies.” Jesus was portrayed as an effeminate hippie who never uttered a cross word. We were told to appease evil, to avoid discord and division. Be that effeminate hippie, like Jesus, and just shrug your shoulders at every advance of evil, as long as we “all get along.”
Well, here we are. Without “strong parents,” children were left to become fully indoctrinated by every movement to “normalize” one bit of evil after another. Now that parents have awakened to the desperate need to be a “show of strength” in God’s truth, parents and their children find themselves in fierce conflict and division with each other.
The temptation is for parents to surrender, and just accommodate evil, for the sake of unity. This temptation is profound, as parents lament being separated from their children. But, many understand that they must remain strong and do all they can to rip their children from the grasp of Satan. Their love extends beyond their desire to remain unified in this cloud of demonic deception … their love seeks eternal life for their children. They must right the wrong of their “weak parenting” that allowed Satan to seize the souls of their children.
Now, reread what I just wrote, and replace “parents” with “bishops,” and you understand where we are in the Church today. Will our bishops’ love extend to our eternal salvation? Will they ditch the effeminate hippie Jesus image, and be the strong leaders they must be? Stay tuned.
