I Survived the Second Coldest Place on Earth!

This slipped my mind until it showed up in my Facebook 'Memories'.

On Saturday night, 12 December 2009, I was living in Edmonton, Alberta. As was my usual custom, I was spending the evening at the Dockside Pub in Downtown Edmonton, having a pint or two and playing cribbage. I lived about eight or nine blocks from the pub at the time. When closing time came, I bundled up and walked home. It was crisp, but I thought nothing of it at the time.

Sunday afternoon I walked back up to the pub. When I walked in, someone said, 'Did you hear about last night?' I had no idea what they were talking about. Excitedly, my friends told me that on Saturday night/Sunday morning, Edmonton had been the coldest place in North America and the second coldest place on earth. The only place colder was a three man weather station in Northern Siberia!

We talked about having hoodies made with the saying, 'I Survived the Second Coldest Place on Earth!', however like most decisions taken over pints, nothing came of it. At least I have something to tease my friends in Nebraska with. When they complain about it being cold, I ask, 'What would you do if it actually got COLD?', and tell this story.

Here's a link to the story in the Edmonton Journal of 14 December 2009: Edmonton shatters cold record.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
