All the questions in this episode were submitted by my friend, Jonathan Daniel Bennett.
The Chevalier's discussion of the first question might be disputed by some people, but I tend to agree with him.
His analysis of Germany's 'war guilt' and of Kaiser Wilhelm is excellent and I think he's spot on. He points out that shortly after the outbreak of war, the Kaiser lost control of policy to Hindenburg and Ludendorff. He also points out that Wilhelm and all but one of his sons were strong anti-Nazi.
He explains that Pope Benedict XV was totally neutral, unlike Pius XII with his pro-Allied 'neutrality' in WWII. Benedict tried to bring peace, but Hindenburg and Ludendorff on the German side and Wilson on the Allied side, were 'good' protestants, and the French government, of course was true to its roots in the satanic Revolution, so they were all opposed to a Papally brokered peace.
He discusses the effect of the war on the monarchies of Europe and why the three great Empires fell.
The discussion of Wilson's evil plans to destroy monarchies is enlightening. He points out that Wilson was essentially a stupid man who couldn't foresee the outcome of his idiotic designs.
His answer to the question of the War's effect on honour and chivalry raises a question. He says that Heads of State (except for King Albert of Belgium) stopped leading their troops into battle. In Britain, at least, the last King to lead his troops in person was King George II at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743.
I would argue with the Chevalier on his characterisation that the Great War introduced the concept of 'total war'. The Union introduced the concept in the War of the Northern Invasion, and it was enthusiastically embraced by the Prussians in the Franco-Prussian War.
The answer to the last question ties together most of the wars of the last three centuries as a cause of the collapse of Western Civilisation and faith in God.
What was the motivation for the Sarajevo Assassination? Was the war inevitable?: 2:04 Was the German Empire the "bad guy"? Kaiser Wilhelm too? 10:25 Did the pope take a side in the war? 15:08 Did the war discredit monarchy? Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
