Your Guardian Angel Is Trying to Warn You — Here's How to Know

From Totus Catholica

Does God truly assign a guardian angel to you personally, and if he does, how does that angel actually reach you? You know the moment: you are about to pull onto a road or send a message, and a thought arrives that you did not choose. Wait. Not this way. The cynic calls it nerves or coincidence. The seeker runs to angel cards and angel numbers. The Catholic faith stands in a stranger place between the two. It says the warning may be real, you may have been spoken to, and there is a way to tell the difference. The Hebrew word for angel is malak, and it simply means messenger, one who is sent. The story runs from a desert to your doorstep. In Exodus 23, God sends an angel before Israel to guard them on the way, the very passage the Church reads aloud every year on the memorial of the Guardian Angels. On the lips of Jesus it becomes personal: their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father. And the verb underneath it all is shamar, to guard, to keep, the word of the blessing every priest still speaks: the Lord bless you and keep you. So do three simple things. Pray the Angel of God prayer each morning. Read the book of Tobit slowly this week. And carry all of it to the sacraments, where heaven and earth already meet. The God who sent an angel before Israel sent one before you, and he has never once looked away.
