A Warning to Traditional Catholics in the Wake of TLM Closures

A heads up from Fr Kusick. There is an unscrupulous fraudster going around claiming to be willing to represent those whose Bishops have turfed the TLM.

By Fr Kevin M. Cusick

Dear faithful,

It has unfortunately come to my attention over the years that an unscrupulous individual, “ambulance chaser” type with a canon law degree, has been approaching unsuspecting traditional Catholics with promises of aiding in canonical redress with their bishops after their local TLM has been cancelled.

It has fallen to me, in the absence of any interest in covering this issue by reputable news sources, to issue this warning.

What this individual, when he presents himself, fails to mention is the fact that his canon law degree does not equip him to represent the faithful in these instances according to the requirements of Canon Law.

He charges a retainer, for example, to send a letter to the bishop, then charges travel fees ostensibly to present the case before the local bishop. When the plaintiff discovers he failed to complete travel as promised and demands a refund of their money, he refuses or ghosts them.

In the wake of a new wave of closures, there may sadly be new cases of such crass abuse of well-intentioned faithful Catholics. By speaking out, as distasteful as is such a task, I hope to prevent further fraud.

Anyone can contact me and provide a name if they are approached in circumstances similar to those I have described. The purpose must only be to avoid useless and unavailing exercise of canon law processes. Any attempts to engage in character assassinations of any kind will be ignored.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr Kevin M. Cusick
