In this video I discuss the evolution of papal funeral rituals, both before and after significant reforms in the 20th century. Before 1978, papal funerals were elaborate ceremonies rooted in medieval tradition, reflecting the pope's temporal and spiritual authority. This video details the traditional rituals, including those surrounding the pope’s death, the embalming process, private and public lying in state, and the burial procedures. It also explores the changes introduced by Pope Francis, who simplified the ceremonial while preserving core elements of tradition.
