Victory in Europe Day

Seventy-nine years ago today, the Brown Socialists of Germany were defeated. My parents married in July when they knew they would survive. Here are some videos of how the UK, Canada, and the US celebrated.

VE Day in London - 1945, a newsreel from 1945.

VE Day began with Mr Churchill's broadcast officially announcing the end of war in Europe. Londoners took to the streets in celebrations which continued for nearly two days.

Outside Buckingham Palace the crowds chanted 'we want the King' and were rewarded by the Royal Family appearing on the balcony. At nine o'clock in the evening the King broadcast to Britain and the Commonwealth.

At 6 a.m. on May 8, 1945, President Harry Truman announced the end of the war in Europe.

On May 8, 1945, US President Harry S. Truman addressed the nation from the Oval Office to celebrate that, while the war in the Pacific was far from over, “the flags of freedom fly all over Europe.” May 8th is also Harry Truman's birthday.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
